Spa Treatment Procedures
The spa procedures are carried out in Spas III, V and VI and individual spas.
The natural curing sources of mineral water, carbon dioxide, and peat moss from Krasno near Karlovy Vary are used for treatment procedures.
Spa doctors prescribe the procedures, but you can buy some of them without a doctor`s prescription.

 

The Baths


Pearl Bath
This is a bath in thermal water with a temperature of between 37 and 38 degrees Celsius. It provides a micro-massage of the skin, improves blood circulation and overall relaxation of the organism..

Carbon Dioxide Bath
This is a bath in thermal water with a temperature of between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius and saturated with carbon dioxide. It improves blood circulation, lowers blood pressure and promotes mental relaxation.

Bath with Additives
It positively influences motor skills, frees muscle tension, and has a pain-soothing effect. Baths could be, for example, with iodine, herbs, or peloid (peat moss).

Dry carbon dioxide bath
The patient`s body is closed in a sealed bag filled with carbon dioxide. It increases blood circulation, lowers blood pressure, improves the healing of wounds and rejuvenates tired muscles.


The Thermal Procedures


Paraffin Pack
A few layers of melted paraffin are spread on the part of the body to be treated. The warmth improves movement in small joints and blood circulation.

Peloid Pack
A bag of warm peat moss is put on the part of the body to be treated and this involves a slow transfer of heat into the body. The pack is used to treat motor problems, problems of the digestive tract and has a pain-soothing effect.

Peloid Wrap
Heated peat moss mixed with thermal water is applied directly to the affected part of the body and involves a slow transfer of heat onto the body. It is used to treat motor problems, chronic illnesses of the digestive tract, and treatment of gout, etc.

Heat procedures include parafango and fango.


Massages


Classical massage
This is a hand massage using soap or massage cream. It improves the blood circulation, increases the absorption
of oxygen and nutrients to the body, helps flush out waste materials from the body and relaxes localised muscles under
the skin.

Reflex massage
Positively influences reflex changes caused by ill internal organs and motor apparatus especially the spine.

Underwater massage
Water pressure is used for this massage. It creates muscle relaxation, improves blood circulation in the skin and under the skin and improves joint movement.

Improves the defensive mechanism of the organism and at the same time, increases blood circulation, relaxes spasms and soothes pain.

 

Physiotherapy

Among these procedures belong for example ultrasound treatment treatment with different types of electric current treatment with electromagnetic fields treatment by direct galvanic current in water or laser.

The listed treatment procedures lower pain, improve metabolism and blood circulation, relaxes tensed muscles and removes degenerative changes in muscles and bones.


Remedial Gymnastics
Group exercises
for patients with similar handicaps, for example, spinal problems, obesity, or lymphatic swelling.

Individual exercises
for patients with motor skill problems, neuromuscular problems, bad motor skills or bad posture, under the leadership of a rehabilitation worker or with the help of machines

Swimming Pool Exercises
use hydrostatic pressure, warmth, water resistance and pressure. These exercises are prescribed for motor skills problems, post-accident situations, nerve problems and all illnesses required overall relaxation of organism.


Other Procedures
Inhalation Therapy
Is the breathing in of microscopic elements of curing liquids through the nose or mouth. It is used for treating upper or lower respiratory tract problems.

Dental Irrigation
Is a gum massage using thermal water and it has beneficial results for periodontal tissue. It acts as a cure and prevention of periodontosis.

Pneumopuncture
It activates active acupuncture points with applications of carbon dioxide injected under the skin. It results in relief from painful syndromes and other functional problems.

Lymphodrainage - manual or mechanical
This method supports the drainage of lymph from the body. It is used therapeutically with primary or secondary lymphatic swellings or preventively for post-surgery or post-accident conditions.

Mineral water coloclysis

  • Intestinal purgative procedure - clysis - is used to empty intestines before various types of special investigations and operations take place.
  • Intestinal medical procedure - uses healing effects of the mineral water applied to colon.

Before the procedure takes place, close medical investigation of colon is necessary. Indication: dyspeptic intestinal syndromes, lipid metabolism disorders, diseases of liver, gall bladder, and urogenital system.

Oxygen therapy
Characteristics: oxygen treatment developed by Prof. Manfred von Ardenne has been used in Karlovy Vary since 1981. It is a 2-hour inhalation application of 40% oxygen and simultaneous use of minerals, vitamins and physical exercise.

Results: Improves supply of oxygen to the body and therefore gives the body basic energy matter that improves physical and mental functions of the patient, stops the worsening of illness brought on by age. It is a part of the treatment and prevention of geriatric problems.


The Ten Commandments of the Karlovy Vary Drinking Cure

  1. Karlovy Vary thermal mineral water should be drunk only after consulting a qualified spa physician.
  2. To attain the full curative effect, Karlovy Vary thermal mineral water should be drunk at the springs.
  3. Karlovy Vary thermal mineral water should be drunk from the traditionally shaped porcelain or glass cups only.
  4. The cure should not be combined with the consumption of alcohol or smoking of tobacco products; even passive inhalation of tobacco smoke is harmful.
  5. The drinking cure includes physical exercise; thus, the water should be drunk while walking.
  6. The drinking cure should be accompanied by peace of mind and a relaxed pace of life.
  7. The drinking cure should be repeated as recommended by your physician.
  8. The drinking cure is a kind of ceremony; please do not disturb the other clients.
  9. Mineral water cannot be used for watering the nearby plants or poured on the floor in colonnade areas.
  10. For hygiene reasons, please do not touch the spring stand or outflow pipes when taking water from the spring fountain.
